Overview

The Mayo Hegar Needle Holder (16cm) is a precision needle holder crafted for controlled, fatigue-free suturing. Its tungsten carbide jaw inserts provide an exceptionally hard, cross-hatched gripping surface that holds fine needles securely without twisting, and dramatically extends the working life of the instrument — the gold-coloured ring handles indicate TC construction.

The 16cm tungsten carbide Mayo Hegar is the heavy-lifter of our TC range: extended reach and leverage for deeper closures, combined with brazed carbide jaw inserts that clamp medium and large needles immovably. The gold-coloured ring handles mark it out as a TC instrument at a single glance on the tray. Care & sterilisation

Clean promptly after use, ultrasonic clean where available, lubricate the box joint regularly, and sterilise open in an autoclave. Avoid clamping wire or oversized needles beyond the jaw rating to preserve alignment.

Care & maintenance

• Cleaning: Clean promptly with neutral-pH detergent and ultrasonic assistance where available, brushing the carbide pattern to clear the recesses. Keep abrasive pads away from the gold-plated handles.
• Sterilisation: Autoclavable throughout, inserts and gold finish included — steam sterilise open on the first ratchet click and dry completely, including the box joint.
• Maintenance: Routine box-joint lubrication plus periodic insert inspection for chips or polishing keeps the instrument in service. Grip-test with a clamped needle at scheduled intervals and act on any slip.
• Storage: House it dry, ratchet released, in a slotted tray that shields the carbide edges and jaw tips from knocks by heavier theatre instruments.
