Restocking the Treatment Room: A Wound-Care Checklist for WA Clinics
From SmartTab dressing packs to sterile gauze, combine dressings and closure strips — the consumables every GP treatment room should keep on hand, and how to stock them without waste.

A well-stocked treatment room turns a 20-minute scramble into a 5-minute procedure. Here's the wound-care restock list we supply most often to GP clinics and medical centres across WA — with a few stock-control habits that save money.
1. Dressing packs — the sterile field in one peel
The Multigate SmartTab® dressing pack bundles a 49 × 49 cm aseptic field, dressing tray, towel, three secure-grip plastic forceps, non-woven swabs and balls into one sterile unit. SmartTab tabs let you open and position the field without touching sterile surfaces, and the pack design has been assessed by the Association for Safe Aseptic Practice — it supports the ANTT® technique your accreditation reviewers look for.
2. Gauze — sterile where it counts, bulk where it doesn't
Run two tiers: non-sterile 100-packs (100% cotton, 8-ply) for cleansing, prep and everyday tasks, and sterile peel pouches of 3 in the same 7.5 × 7.5 cm size for aseptic procedures. Matching sizes across both keeps ordering simple, and the 3-pouch format means you never waste an opened sterile pack.
3. Dressings for every wound size
Cover the spectrum with three product families: Compose island dressings for routine post-op wounds, Claripose waterproof dressings for patients who need to shower between reviews, and sterile combine dressings (10 × 12 cm and 10 × 22 cm) for heavy exudate and padding under bandages.
4. Closure and retention
Multi-Strip® skin closures close clean, low-tension lacerations without a needle — keep the 38 mm for faces and hands and the 75 mm for limbs. Hold everything in place with light-weight crepe bandages in the versatile 7.5 cm width.
5. Stock rotation: the expiry-date habit
Sterile consumables carry expiry dates, and an expired pouch is an unusable pouch. Two habits prevent write-offs: store new stock behind old (first-in, first-out), and diarise a quarterly expiry check. Products approaching six months from expiry are ideal candidates for planned procedures rather than the back of the cupboard.
