Setting Up a Minor Procedures Room: The Essential WA Clinic Checklist

From needle holders to examination bed rolls — a practical checklist of the instruments and consumables every general practice minor-ops room needs.

JV Medical

Whether you're opening a new practice or refreshing a treatment room, a well-stocked minor procedures setup makes every excision, suture and dressing change smoother. Here's the checklist we share with Perth clinics.

Core instrument set

  • Needle holders: a 14cm Mayo Hegar covers most suturing; add a TC version if you suture daily.
  • Scissors: Iris scissors for fine work, Mayo scissors for heavier tissue and sutures, and a blunt/curved pair for dressings.
  • Forceps: toothed Adson for skin, serrated Adson for dressings, plus sponge forceps (Foerster or Rampley) for prepping.
  • Haemostasis: curved Kelly artery forceps.
  • Scalpel handles: a No. 3 handle with your preferred blade sizes.

Consumables

  • Examination bed roll for couch hygiene between patients
  • Dressing packs, sutures, blades and skin prep to suit your procedures

Practical tips

Buy two of any instrument that's autoclave-dependent — one in use, one in reprocessing. Choose instrument sizes to match your team's hands, not just the catalogue default. And keep a laminated reprocessing chart by the steriliser.

We stock every instrument above with GST-inclusive pricing and free delivery over $150 across serviced WA areas. Questions? Call us on (08) 6199 7931 — we're WA-based and happy to help.
