By a GP, for GPs: How a Perth Doctor Stocks a General Practice

JV Medical is owned and run by a practising WA GP. Here's the consumables list we believe every general practice should keep on hand — and why buying local changes the service you get.

JV Medical
Medical consumables for GP clinics

JV Medical is a little different from the big national distributors: it's owned and operated by a practising Perth GP. Every product on this site earned its place the same way — would we use it on our own patients, at our own clinic, at that price? Here's what that looks like in practice, and the stock list we recommend to fellow GPs.

Why GP-owned matters

When your supplier does the same job you do, three things change. Product selection gets ruthless — we don't list ten look-alike dressings, we list the one we'd actually reach for. Advice gets clinical — ask us about suture gauge for a scalp laceration and you'll get an answer from someone who has closed one. And urgency is understood — "we've run out of chlorhexidine" is a Tuesday problem we've lived, which is why we dispatch within 48 hours from Wangara rather than shipping from the east coast.

The treatment-room core list

For a standard WA general practice we recommend keeping these on hand as the non-negotiables: sterile dressing packs for every aseptic procedure; nylon sutures in 3-0 to 5-0 plus a No. 11 disposable scalpel for minor surgery; hypodermic needles across the common gauges with luer lock syringes; sodium chloride ampoules and saline sachets for irrigation; hospital-grade surface wipes and alcohol swabs for infection control; fixation fabric and island dressings for wound care; and nitrile exam gloves in at least two sizes at every station.

The habits that save money

Two buying habits consistently cut consumable spend without cutting corners. Buy the formats you turn over fastest in bulk (boxes and cartons) and the slow movers in singles — our shared-stock listings let you buy the same product as a single unit, a bag or a carton depending on the week. And diarise a quarterly expiry sweep: sterile stock approaching six months from expiry should move to the front of the queue for planned procedures, not the back of the cupboard.

Local, GST-inclusive, no surprises

Every price on the site includes GST, WA orders over $150 ship free, and anything in stock leaves Wangara within 48 hours. If you'd rather talk through a clinic set-up or a recurring order, call (08) 6199 7931 or send us your usage list — quotes come back from a GP who knows exactly what your treatment room goes through in a week.
